*Coleche's Diamond

We bought Diamond after some serious searching for a larger Curly mare for my step daughter Sarah to ride. She always rode the smaller Curlies and while they carried her fine, she preferred a somewhat taller horse if possible. So, when we found Diamond in Wisconsin it seemed like a match made in heaven. The plan was for Sarah to have use of Diamond until she left for college or moved out on her own at which time Diamond would take her place in the broodmare band, adding her outstanding movement, disposition and size to the mix.

It took a few months to get poor Diamond all the way home as we had troubles with paperwork, shippers and serious winter weather, but she finally rolled in and established a place with us for the long term.

It didn't take Sarah long to have Diamond working well under saddle and for me to decide that here was a Curly horse worth duplicating. The ride she gave me one day was one that stuck in my mind for ages afterward. Her gaits are big, but smooth as silk; her stature and presence are solid as a rock; she is unflappable in temperament, and a joy to work around.

Sarah and Diamond spent two fun years working and playing together. Sarah taught her to jump and found that Diamond was at home doing any number of things. She was wonderful used as a way to bring our Christmas tree home from the woods.

Or serving as a portable mounting hoist,

Or just heading out for a trail ride at the beach!

After Sarah moved out, I bred Diamond to my young stallion *WindyK Troy for a 2003 foal. This was to be both Diamond's and Troy's first foal so I was very excited for the big event to arrive..  In Feb of 2003, Diamond presented me with a fabulous strapping colt,  who looked just like her!! LOL..

Don't think he looks like much then (5 days old)? Well here is what he grew into in just 4 short months.

Shortly after Steven was born, I started riding Diamond in lessons with a dressage trainer. As she watched Diamond work hard at lessons new to her, she encouraged me with comments about the mare's innate talent and ability in this area. I have struggled to find the time to ride her consistently but we are making progress and Diamond is currently working at Training level.

Sarah still comes and rides from time to time and it is always great to see the rapport that still exists between the two old friends.
